一、「遗嘱」。来9:16,17 。κεκυρωμένη批准过的「文约」，加3:15 ；参加3:17 ，在此 δ.适用于意二（见κυρόω－SG2964 一，προκυρόω－SG4300）。

二、作为七十士中בְּרִית的译文时，δ.失去了「遗嘱」的意味，因为神所立的约不能要求立约者死了才生效。不过，遗嘱的另一主要特征仍然保留，即它是一个人愿望之宣告，而非如合同或契约，为两造间同意的结果，故此七十士把בְּרִית译成δ.。在神的「约」中，是神单独列出条件来，因此仅在含有此意时，「约」才可译为δ.。是以δ.在七十士里所取用的意思与经外的资料如「契约」，「目的的宣告」，「一列条规」等意义不能通用。新约中，这方面受七十士影响很大，因此也取用七十士对此字之意味。神立约以宣布祂的旨意，罗11:27 （赛59:21 ），即祂心中所思想的（参诗105:8,9 等）路1:72 ；需追溯到祖先的日子，徒3:25 。立约又指颁布条例（割礼），徒7:8 （参创17:10 以下）。既然祂多次说明祂的圣旨，我们可用διαθῆκαι诸命令，诸保证，罗9:4 弗2:12 。早在耶31:31 已十分强调δ. καινή新约，是神为未来所计划的（来8:8-10 来10:16 ）。神针对基督徒的命令或约是个καινὴ δ.新约，路22:20 林前11:25 林后3:6 来8:8 林后9:15 上，或δ. νέα 来12:24 ，亦为δ. αἰώνιος永约（参耶32:40 ）来13:20 ，远超过来7:22 来8:6 中之παλαιὰ δ.旧约，林后3:14 ，或πρώτη δ.前约，来9:15 下，并与之相对。两者皆有提及，加4:24 。当旧约在西乃山宣告时，有血洒下，来9:20 （出24:8 ）；新约亦如此，来10:29 。τὸ αἷμά μου τῆς διαθήκης 我立约的血，太26:28 可14:24 亦可能与此血有关。路22:29 异版可能出自七十士的耶32:40 或赛55:3 。

三、「合约，契约」的意思似乎只为古代所用，它是否对新约有影响仍是疑问，也不确定基督徒作者如何定义：ἡ κιβωτὸς τ. διαθήκης一词（出31:7 出39:14 等）来9:4 启11:19 或αἱ πλάκες τῆς διαθήκης（出34:28 申9:9,11 ）来9:4 。至少第一处可沿用过去的翻译约柜。
