25:1 Amaziah0558 {was} twenty6242 and five2568 years8141 old1121 {when} he began to reign4427, and he reigned4427 twenty6242 and nine8672 years8141 in Jerusalem3389. And his mother's0517 name8034 {was} Jehoaddan3086 of Jerusalem3389.
25:2 And he did6213 {that which was} right3477 in the sight5869 of the LORD3068, but not with a perfect8003 heart3824.
25:3 Now it came to pass, when the kingdom4467 was established2388 to him, that he slew2026 his servants5650 that had killed5221 the king4428 his father0001.
25:4 But he slew4191 not their children1121, but {did} as {it is} written3789 in the law8451 in the book5612 of Moses4872, where the LORD3068 commanded6680, saying0559, The fathers0001 shall not die4191 for the children1121, neither shall the children1121 die4191 for the fathers0001, but every man0376 shall die4191 for his own sin2399.
25:5 Moreover Amaziah0558 gathered6908 Judah3063 together6908, and made5975 them captains8269 over thousands0505, and captains8269 over hundreds3967, according to the houses1004 of {their} fathers0001, throughout all Judah3063 and Benjamin1144: and he numbered6485 them from twenty6242 years8141 old1121 and above4605, and found4672 them three7969 hundred3967 thousand0505 choice0977 {men, able} to go forth3318 to war6635, that could handle0270 spear7420 and shield6793.
25:6 He hired7936 also an hundred3967 thousand0505 mighty1368 men of valour2428 out of Israel3478 for an hundred3967 talents3603 of silver3701.
25:7 But there came0935 a man0376 of God0430 to him, saying0559, O king4428, let not the army6635 of Israel3478 go0935 with thee; for the LORD3068 {is} not with Israel3478, {to wit, with} all the children1121 of Ephraim0669.
25:8 But if thou wilt go0935, do6213 {it}, be strong2388 for the battle4421: God0430 shall make thee fall3782 before6440 the enemy0341: for God0430 hath3426 power3581 to help5826, and to cast down3782.
25:9 And Amaziah0558 said0559 to the man0376 of God0430, But what shall we do6213 for the hundred3967 talents3603 which I have given5414 to the army1416 of Israel3478? And the man0376 of God0430 answered0559, The LORD3068 is3426 able to give5414 thee much more7235 than this.
25:10 Then Amaziah0558 separated0914 them, {to wit}, the army1416 that was come0935 to him out of Ephraim0669, to go3212 home4725 again3212: wherefore their anger0639 was greatly3966 kindled2734 against Judah3063, and they returned7725 home4725 in great2750 anger0639.
25:11 And Amaziah0558 strengthened2388 himself, and led forth5090 his people5971, and went3212 to the valley1516 of salt4417, and smote5221 of the children1121 of Seir8165 ten6235 thousand0505.
25:12 And {other} ten6235 thousand0505 {left} alive2416 did the children1121 of Judah3063 carry away captive7617, and brought0935 them unto the top7218 of the rock5553, and cast them down7993 from the top7218 of the rock5553, that they all were broken in pieces1234.
25:13 But the soldiers1121 of the army1416 which Amaziah0558 sent back7725, that they should not go3212 with him to battle4421, fell6584 upon the cities5892 of Judah3063, from Samaria8111 even unto Bethhoron1032, and smote5221 three7969 thousand0505 of them, and took0962 much7227 spoil0961.
25:14 Now it came to pass, after0310 that Amaziah0558 was come0935 from the slaughter5221 of the Edomites0130, that he brought0935 the gods0430 of the children1121 of Seir8165, and set them up5975 {to be} his gods0430, and bowed down7812 himself before6440 them, and burned incense6999 unto them.
25:15 Wherefore the anger0639 of the LORD3068 was kindled2734 against Amaziah0558, and he sent7971 unto him a prophet5030, which said0559 unto him, Why hast thou sought1875 after the gods0430 of the people5971, which could not deliver5337 their own people5971 out of thine hand3027?
25:16 And it came to pass, as he talked1696 with him, that {the king} said0559 unto him, Art thou made5414 of the king's4428 counsel3289? forbear2308; why shouldest thou be smitten5221? Then the prophet5030 forbare2308, and said0559, I know3045 that God0430 hath determined3289 to destroy7843 thee, because thou hast done6213 this, and hast not hearkened8085 unto my counsel6098.
25:17 Then Amaziah0558 king4428 of Judah3063 took advice3289, and sent7971 to Joash3101, the son1121 of Jehoahaz3059, the son1121 of Jehu3058, king4428 of Israel3478, saying0559, Come3212, let us see one another7200 in the face6440.
25:18 And Joash3101 king4428 of Israel3478 sent7971 to Amaziah0558 king4428 of Judah3063, saying0559, The thistle2336 that {was} in Lebanon3844 sent7971 to the cedar0730 that {was} in Lebanon3844, saying0559, Give5414 thy daughter1323 to my son1121 to wife0802: and there passed by5674 a wild7704 beast2416 that {was} in Lebanon3844, and trode down7429 the thistle2336.
25:19 Thou sayest0559, Lo, thou hast smitten5221 the Edomites0123; and thine heart3820 lifteth thee up5375 to boast3513: abide3427 now at home1004; why shouldest thou meddle1624 to {thine} hurt7451, that thou shouldest fall5307, {even} thou, and Judah3063 with thee?
25:20 But Amaziah0558 would not hear8085; for it {came} of God0430, that he might deliver5414 them into the hand3027 {of their enemies}, because they sought1875 after the gods0430 of Edom0123.
25:21 So Joash3101 the king4428 of Israel3478 went up5927; and they saw one another7200 in the face6440, {both} he and Amaziah0558 king4428 of Judah3063, at Bethshemesh1053, which {belongeth} to Judah3063.
25:22 And Judah3063 was put to the worse5062 before6440 Israel3478, and they fled5127 every man0376 to his tent0168.
25:23 And Joash3101 the king4428 of Israel3478 took8610 Amaziah0558 king4428 of Judah3063, the son1121 of Joash3101, the son1121 of Jehoahaz3059, at Bethshemesh1053, and brought0935 him to Jerusalem3389, and brake down6555 the wall2346 of Jerusalem3389 from the gate8179 of Ephraim0669 to the corner6437 gate8179, four0702 hundred3967 cubits0520.
25:24 And {he took} all the gold2091 and the silver3701, and all the vessels3627 that were found4672 in the house1004 of God0430 with Obededom5654, and the treasures0214 of the king's4428 house1004, the hostages1121-8594 also, and returned7725 to Samaria8111.
25:25 And Amaziah0558 the son1121 of Joash3101 king4428 of Judah3063 lived2421 after0310 the death4194 of Joash3101 son1121 of Jehoahaz3059 king4428 of Israel3478 fifteen2568-6240 years8141.
25:26 Now the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Amaziah0558, first7223 and last0314, behold, {are} they not written3789 in the book5612 of the kings4428 of Judah3063 and Israel3478?
25:27 Now after the time6256 that Amaziah0558 did turn away5493 from following0310 the LORD3068 they made7194 a conspiracy7195 against him in Jerusalem3389; and he fled5127 to Lachish3923: but they sent7971 to Lachish3923 after0310 him, and slew4191 him there.
25:28 And they brought5375 him upon horses5483, and buried6912 him with his fathers0001 in the city5892 of Judah3063.
