13:1 Now in the eighteenth8083-6240 year8141 of king4428 Jeroboam3379 began Abijah0029 to reign4427 over Judah3063.
13:2 He reigned4427 three7969 years8141 in Jerusalem3389. His mother's0517 name8034 also {was} Michaiah4322 the daughter1323 of Uriel0222 of Gibeah1390. And there was war4421 between Abijah0029 and Jeroboam3379.
13:3 And Abijah0029 set0631 the battle4421 in array0631 with an army2428 of valiant men1368 of war4421, {even} four0702 hundred3967 thousand0505 chosen0977 men0376: Jeroboam3379 also set the battle4421 in array6186 against him with eight8083 hundred3967 thousand0505 chosen0977 men0376, {being} mighty men1368 of valour2428.
13:4 And Abijah0029 stood up6965 upon mount2022 Zemaraim6787, which {is} in mount2022 Ephraim0669, and said0559, Hear8085 me, thou Jeroboam3379, and all Israel3478;
13:5 Ought ye not to know3045 that the LORD3068 God0430 of Israel3478 gave5414 the kingdom4467 over Israel3478 to David1732 for ever5769, {even} to him and to his sons1121 by a covenant1285 of salt4417?
13:6 Yet Jeroboam3379 the son1121 of Nebat5028, the servant5650 of Solomon8010 the son1121 of David1732, is risen up6965, and hath rebelled4775 against his lord0113.
13:7 And there are gathered6908 unto him vain7386 men0582, the children1121 of Belial1100, and have strengthened0553 themselves against Rehoboam7346 the son1121 of Solomon8010, when Rehoboam7346 was young5288 and tenderhearted7390-3824, and could not withstand2388 them6440.
13:8 And now ye think0559 to withstand2388 the kingdom6440-4467 of the LORD3068 in the hand3027 of the sons1121 of David1732; and ye {be} a great7227 multitude1995, and {there are} with you golden2091 calves5695, which Jeroboam3379 made6213 you for gods0430.
13:9 Have ye not cast out5080 the priests3548 of the LORD3068, the sons1121 of Aaron0175, and the Levites3881, and have made6213 you priests3548 after the manner of the nations5971 of {other} lands0776? so that whosoever cometh0935 to consecrate4390-3027 himself with a young1121-1241 bullock6499 and seven7651 rams0352, {the same} may be a priest3548 of {them that are} no3808 gods0430.
13:10 But as for us, the LORD3068 {is} our God0430, and we have not forsaken5800 him; and the priests3548, which minister8334 unto the LORD3068, {are} the sons1121 of Aaron0175, and the Levites3881 {wait} upon {their} business4399:
13:11 And they burn6999 unto the LORD3068 every morning1242 and every evening6153 burnt sacrifices5930 and sweet5561 incense7004: the shewbread3899-4635 also {set they in order} upon the pure2889 table7979; and the candlestick4501 of gold2091 with the lamps5216 thereof, to burn1197 every evening6153: for we keep8104 the charge4931 of the LORD3068 our God0430; but ye have forsaken5800 him.
13:12 And, behold, God0430 himself {is} with us for {our} captain7218, and his priests3548 with sounding8643 trumpets2689 to cry alarm7321 against you. O children1121 of Israel3478, fight3898 ye not against the LORD3068 God0430 of your fathers0001; for ye shall not prosper6743.
13:13 But Jeroboam3379 caused an ambushment3993 to come0935 about5437 behind0310 them: so they were before6440 Judah3063, and the ambushment3993 {was} behind0310 them.
13:14 And when Judah3063 looked back6437, behold, the battle4421 {was} before6440 and behind0268: and they cried6817 unto the LORD3068, and the priests3548 sounded2690-2690 with the trumpets2689.
13:15 Then the men0376 of Judah3063 gave a shout7321: and as the men0376 of Judah3063 shouted7321, it came to pass, that God0430 smote5062 Jeroboam3379 and all Israel3478 before6440 Abijah0029 and Judah3063.
13:16 And the children1121 of Israel3478 fled5127 before6440 Judah3063: and God0430 delivered5414 them into their hand3027.
13:17 And Abijah0029 and his people5971 slew5221 them with a great7227 slaughter4347: so there fell down5307 slain2491 of Israel3478 five2568 hundred3967 thousand0505 chosen0977 men0376.
13:18 Thus the children1121 of Israel3478 were brought3665 under at that time6256, and the children1121 of Judah3063 prevailed0553, because they relied8172 upon the LORD3068 God0430 of their fathers0001.
13:19 And Abijah0029 pursued7291 after0310 Jeroboam3379, and took3920 cities5892 from him, Bethel1008 with the towns1323 thereof, and Jeshanah3466 with the towns1323 thereof, and Ephrain6085 with the towns1323 thereof.
13:20 Neither did Jeroboam3379 recover6113 strength3581 again in the days3117 of Abijah0029: and the LORD3068 struck5062 him, and he died4191.
13:21 But Abijah0029 waxed mighty2388, and married5375 fourteen0702-6240 wives0802, and begat3205 twenty6242 and two8147 sons1121, and sixteen8337-6240 daughters1323.
13:22 And the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Abijah0029, and his ways1870, and his sayings1697, {are} written3789 in the story4097 of the prophet5030 Iddo5714.
13:23 So Abijah0029 slept7901 with his fathers0001, and they buried6912 him in the city5892 of David1732: and Asa0609 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead. In his days3117 the land0776 was quiet8252 ten6235 years8141.
