His mother's0517 name8034 also {was} Zibiah6645 of Beersheba0884. 24:2 And Joash3101 did6213 {that which was} right3477 in the sight5869 of the LORD3068 all the days3117 of Jehoiada3077 the priest3548. 24:3 And Jehoiada3077 took5375 for him two8147 wives0802; and he begat3205 sons1121 and daughters1323. 24:4 And it came to pass after0310 this, {that} Joash3101 was minded3820 to repair2318 the house1004 of the LORD3068. 24:5 And he gathered together6908 the priests3548 and the Levites3881, and said0559 to them, Go out3318 unto the cities5892 of Judah3063, and gather6908 of all Israel3478 money3701 to repair2388 the house1004 of your God0430 from1767 year8141 to year8141, and see that ye hasten4116 the matter1697. Howbeit the Levites3881 hastened4116 {it} not. 24:6 And the king4428 called7121 for Jehoiada3077 the chief7218, and said0559 unto him, Why hast thou not required1875 of the Levites3881 to bring in0935 out of Judah3063 and out of Jerusalem3389 the collection4864, {according to the commandment} of Moses4872 the servant5650 of the LORD3068, and of the congregation6951 of Israel3478, for the tabernacle0168 of witness5715? 24:7 For the sons1121 of Athaliah6271, that wicked4849 woman, had broken up6555 the house1004 of God0430; and also all the dedicated things6944 of the house1004 of the LORD3068 did they bestow6213 upon Baalim1168. 24:8 And at the king's4428 commandment0559 they made6213 a0259 chest0727, and set5414 it without2351 at the gate8179 of the house1004 of the LORD3068. 24:9 And they made5414 a proclamation6963 through Judah3063 and Jerusalem3389, to bring in0935 to the LORD3068 the collection4864 {that} Moses4872 the servant5650 of God0430 {laid} upon Israel3478 in the wilderness4057. 24:10 And all the princes8269 and all the people5971 rejoiced8055, and brought in0935, and cast7993 into the chest0727, until they had made an end3615. 24:11 Now it came to pass, that at what time6256 the chest0727 was brought0935 unto the king's4428 office6486 by the hand3027 of the Levites3881, and when they saw7200 that {there was} much7227 money3701, the king's4428 scribe5608 and the high7218 priest's3548 officer6496 came0935 and emptied6168 the chest0727, and took5375 it, and carried7725 it to his place4725 again7725. Then the king4428 hearkened8085 unto them. 24:18 And they left5800 the house1004 of the LORD3068 God0430 of their fathers0001, and served5647 groves0842 and idols6091: and wrath7110 came upon Judah3063 and Jerusalem3389 for this their trespass0819. 24:19 Yet he sent7971 prophets5030 to them, to bring them again7725 unto the LORD3068; and they testified5749 against them: but they would not give ear0238. 24:20 And the Spirit7307 of God0430 came3847 upon Zechariah2148 the son1121 of Jehoiada3077 the priest3548, which stood5975 above the people5971, and said0559 unto them, Thus saith0559 God0430, Why transgress5674 ye the commandments4687 of the LORD3068, that ye cannot prosper6743? because ye have forsaken5800 the LORD3068, he hath also forsaken5800 you. 24:21 And they conspired7194 against him, and stoned7275 him with stones0068 at the commandment4687 of the king4428 in the court2691 of the house1004 of the LORD3068. 24:22 Thus Joash3101 the king4428 remembered2142 not the kindness2617 which Jehoiada3077 his father0001 had done6213 to him, but slew2026 his son1121. And when he died4194, he said0559, The LORD3068 look7200 upon {it}, and require1875 {it}. 24:23 And it came to pass at the end8622 of the year8141, {that} the host2428 of Syria0758 came up5927 against him: and they came0935 to Judah3063 and Jerusalem3389, and destroyed7843 all the princes8269 of the people5971 from among the people5971, and sent7971 all the spoil7998 of them unto the king4428 of Damascus1834. 24:24 For the army2428 of the Syrians0758 came0935 with a small4705 company of men0582, and the LORD3068 delivered5414 a very3966 great7230 host2428 into their hand3027, because they had forsaken5800 the LORD3068 God0430 of their fathers0001. So they executed6213 judgment8201 against Joash3101. 24:25 And when they were departed3212 from him, (for they left5800 him in great7227 diseases4251,) his own servants5650 conspired7194 against him for the blood1818 of the sons1121 of Jehoiada3077 the priest3548, and slew2026 him on his bed4296, and he died4191: and they buried6912 him in the city5892 of David1732, but they buried6912 him not in the sepulchres6913 of the kings4428. 24:26 And these are they that conspired7194 against him; Zabad2066 the son1121 of Shimeath8100 an Ammonitess5985, and Jehozabad3075 the son1121 of Shimrith8116 a Moabitess4125. 24:27 Now {concerning} his sons1121, and the greatness7235-7230 of the burdens4853 {laid} upon him, and the repairing3247 of the house1004 of God0430, behold, they {are} written3789 in the story4097 of the book5612 of the kings4428. And Amaziah0558 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead.
