32:1 And early7925 in the morning1242 Laban3837 rose up7925, and kissed5401 his sons1121 and his daughters1323, and blessed1288 them: and Laban3837 departed3212, and returned7725 unto his place4725.
32:2 And Jacob3290 went1980 on his way1870, and the angels4397 of God0430 met6293 him.
32:3 And when Jacob3290 saw them7200, he said0559, This {is} God's0430 host4264: and he called7121 the name8034 of that place4725 Mahanaim4266.
32:4 And Jacob3290 sent7971 messengers4397 before him6440 to Esau6215 his brother0251 unto the land0776 of Seir8165, the country7704 of Edom0123.
32:5 And he commanded6680 them, saying0559, Thus shall ye speak0559 unto my lord0113 Esau6215; Thy servant5650 Jacob3290 saith0559 thus, I have sojourned1481 with Laban3837, and stayed there0309 until now:
32:6 And I have oxen7794, and asses2543, flocks6629, and menservants5650, and womenservants8198: and I have sent7971 to tell5046 my lord0113, that I may find4672 grace2580 in thy sight5869.
32:7 And the messengers4397 returned7725 to Jacob3290, saying0559, We came0935 to thy brother0251 Esau6215, and also he cometh1980 to meet thee7125, and four hundred3967 men0376 with him.
32:8 Then Jacob3290 was greatly3966 afraid3372 and distressed3334: and he divided2673 the people5971 that {was} with him, and the flocks6629, and herds1241, and the camels1581, into two8147 bands4264;
32:9 And said0559, If Esau6215 come0935 to the one0259 company4264, and smite it5221, then the other company4264 which is left7604 shall escape6413.
32:10 And Jacob3290 said0559, O God0430 of my father0001 Abraham0085, and God0430 of my father0001 Isaac3327, the LORD3068 which saidst0559 unto me, Return7725 unto thy country0776, and to thy kindred4138, and I will deal well3190 with thee:
32:11 I am not worthy of the least6994 of all the mercies2617, and of all the truth0571, which thou hast shewed6213 unto thy servant5650; for with my staff4731 I passed over5674 this Jordan3383; and now I am become two8147 bands4264.
32:12 Deliver me5337, I pray thee, from the hand3027 of my brother0251, from the hand3027 of Esau6215: for I fear3373 him, lest he will come0935 and smite me5221, {and} the mother0517 with5921 the children1121.
32:13 And thou saidst0559, I will surely3190 do thee good3190, and make7760 thy seed2233 as the sand2344 of the sea3220, which cannot be numbered5608 for multitude7230.
32:14 And he lodged3885 there that same night3915; and took3947 of that which came0935 to his hand3027 a present4503 for Esau6215 his brother0251;
32:15 Two hundred3967 she goats5795, and twenty6242 he goats8495, two hundred3967 ewes7353, and twenty6242 rams0352,
32:16 Thirty7970 milch3243 camels1581 with their colts1121, forty0705 kine6510, and ten6235 bulls6499, twenty6242 she asses0860, and ten6235 foals5895.
32:17 And he delivered5414 {them} into the hand3027 of his servants5650, every drove5739 by themselves; and said0559 unto his servants5650, Pass over5674 before me6440, and put7760 a space7305 betwixt0996 drove5739 and0996 drove5739.
32:18 And he commanded6680 the foremost7223, saying0559, When Esau6215 my brother0251 meeteth thee6298, and asketh thee7592, saying0559, Whose {art} thou? and whither goest3212 thou? and whose {are} these before6440 thee?
32:19 Then thou shalt say0559, {They be} thy servant5650 Jacob's3290; it {is} a present4503 sent7971 unto my lord0113 Esau6215: and, behold, also he {is} behind us0310.
32:20 And so1571 commanded he6680 the second8145, and the third7992, and all that followed1980-0310 the droves5739, saying0559, On this manner1697 shall ye speak1696 unto Esau6215, when ye find4672 him.
32:21 And say ye0559 moreover1571, Behold, thy servant5650 Jacob3290 {is} behind us0310. For he said0559, I will appease3722 him6440 with the present4503 that goeth1980 before me6440, and afterward0310 I will see7200 his face6440; peradventure he will accept5375 of me6440.
32:22 So went5674 the present4503 over5674 before him6440: and himself lodged3885 that night3915 in the company4264.
32:23 And he rose up6965 that night3915, and took3947 his two8147 wives0802, and his two8147 womenservants8198, and his eleven6240-0259 sons3206, and passed over5674 the ford4569 Jabbok2999.
32:24 And he took them3947, and sent them over5674 the brook5158, and sent over5674 that he had.
32:25 And Jacob3290 was left3498 alone; and there wrestled0079 a man0376 with him until the breaking5927 of the day7837.
32:26 And when he saw7200 that he prevailed3201 not against him, he touched5060 the hollow of his thigh3409; and the hollow3709 of Jacob's3290 thigh3409 was out of joint3363, as he wrestled0079 with him.
32:27 And he said0559, Let me go7971, for the day7837 breaketh5927. And he said0559, I will not let thee go7971, except0518 thou bless1288 me.
32:28 And he said0559 unto him, What {is} thy name8034? And he said0559, Jacob3290.
32:29 And he said0559, Thy name8034 shall be called0559 no more Jacob3290, but Israel3478: for as a prince hast thou power8280 with God0430 and with men0582, and hast prevailed3201.
32:30 And Jacob3290 asked7592 {him}, and said0559, Tell5046 {me}, I pray thee, thy name8034. And he said0559, Wherefore {is} it2088 {that} thou dost ask7592 after my name8034? And he blessed1288 him there.
32:31 And Jacob3290 called7121 the name8034 of the place4725 Peniel6439: for I have seen7200 God0430 face6440 to face6440, and my life5315 is preserved5337.
32:32 And as he passed over5674 Penuel6439 the sun8121 rose2224 upon him, and he halted6760 upon his thigh3409.
32:33 Therefore the children1121 of Israel3478 eat0398 not {of} the sinew1517 which shrank5384, which {is} upon the hollow3709 of the thigh3409, unto this day3117: because he touched5060 the hollow3709 of Jacob's3290 thigh3409 in the sinew1517 that shrank5384.
