22:1 And every one0376 {that was} in distress4689, and every one0376 that {was} in debt5378, and every one0376 {that was} discontented4751-5315, gathered6908 themselves unto him; and he became a captain8269 over them: and there were with him about four0702 hundred3967 men0376.
22:2 And David1732 went3212 thence to Mizpeh4708 of Moab4124: and he said0559 unto the king4428 of Moab4124, Let my father0001 and my mother0517, I pray thee, come forth3318, {and be} with you, till I know3045 what God0430 will do6213 for me.
22:3 And he brought5148 them before6440 the king4428 of Moab4124: and they dwelt3427 with him all the while3117 that David1732 was in the hold4686.
22:4 And the prophet5030 Gad1410 said0559 unto David1732, Abide3427 not in the hold4686; depart3212, and get0935 thee into the land0776 of Judah3063. Then David1732 departed3212, and came0935 into the forest3293 of Hareth2802.
22:5 When Saul7586 heard8085 that David1732 was discovered3045, and the men0582 that {were} with him, (now Saul7586 abode3427 in Gibeah1390 under a tree0815 in Ramah7414, having his spear2595 in his hand3027, and all his servants5650 {were} standing5324 about him;)
22:6 Then Saul7586 said0559 unto his servants5650 that stood5324 about him, Hear now8085, ye Benjamites1145; will the son1121 of Jesse3448 give5414 every one of you fields7704 and vineyards3754, {and} make7760 you all captains8269 of thousands0505, and captains8269 of hundreds3967;
22:7 That all of you have conspired7194 against me, and {there is} none that sheweth1540-0241 me that my son1121 hath made a league3772 with the son1121 of Jesse3448, and {there is} none of you that is sorry2470 for me, or sheweth1540-0241 unto me that my son1121 hath stirred up6965 my servant5650 against me, to lie in wait0693, as at this day3117?
22:8 Then answered6030 Doeg1673 the Edomite0130, which was set5324 over the servants5650 of Saul7586, and said0559, I saw7200 the son1121 of Jesse3448 coming0935 to Nob5011, to Ahimelech0288 the son1121 of Ahitub0285.
22:9 And he enquired7592 of the LORD3068 for him, and gave5414 him victuals6720, and gave5414 him the sword2719 of Goliath1555 the Philistine6430.
22:10 Then the king4428 sent7971 to call7121 Ahimelech0288 the priest3548, the son1121 of Ahitub0285, and all his father's0001 house1004, the priests3548 that {were} in Nob5011: and they came0935 all of them to the king4428.
22:11 And Saul7586 said0559, Hear8085 now, thou son1121 of Ahitub0285. And he answered0559, Here I {am}, my lord0113.
22:12 And Saul7586 said0559 unto him, Why have ye conspired7194 against me, thou and the son1121 of Jesse3448, in that thou hast given5414 him bread3899, and a sword2719, and hast enquired7592 of God0430 for him, that he should rise6965 against me, to lie in wait0693, as at this day3117?
22:13 Then Ahimelech0288 answered6030 the king4428, and said0559, And who {is so} faithful0539 among all thy servants5650 as David1732, which is the king's4428 son in law2860, and goeth5493 at thy bidding4928, and is honourable3513 in thine house1004?
22:14 Did I then3117 begin2490 to enquire7592 of God0430 for him? be it far from me2486: let not the king4428 impute7760 {any} thing1697 unto his servant5650, {nor} to all the house1004 of my father0001: for thy servant5650 knew3045 nothing1697 of all this, less6996 or more1419.
22:15 And the king4428 said0559, Thou shalt surely4191 die4191, Ahimelech0288, thou, and all thy father's0001 house1004.
22:16 And the king4428 said0559 unto the footmen7323 that stood5324 about him, Turn5437, and slay4191 the priests3548 of the LORD3068; because their hand3027 also {is} with David1732, and because they knew3045 when he fled1272, and did not shew1540-0241 it to me. But the servants5650 of the king4428 would0014 not put forth7971 their hand3027 to fall6293 upon the priests3548 of the LORD3068.
22:17 And the king4428 said0559 to Doeg1673, Turn5437 thou, and fall6293 upon the priests3548. And Doeg1673 the Edomite0130 turned5437, and he fell6293 upon the priests3548, and slew4191 on that day3117 fourscore8084 and five2568 persons0376 that did wear5375 a linen0906 ephod0646.
22:18 And Nob5011, the city5892 of the priests3548, smote5221 he with the edge6310 of the sword2719, both men0376 and women0802, children5768 and sucklings3243, and oxen7794, and asses2543, and sheep7716, with the edge6310 of the sword2719.
22:19 And one0259 of the sons1121 of Ahimelech0288 the son1121 of Ahitub0285, named8034 Abiathar0054, escaped4422, and fled1272 after0310 David1732.
22:20 And Abiathar0054 shewed5046 David1732 that Saul7586 had slain2026 the LORD'S3068 priests3548.
22:21 And David1732 said0559 unto Abiathar0054, I knew3045 {it} that day3117, when Doeg1673 the Edomite0130 {was} there, that he would surely5046 tell5046 Saul7586: I have occasioned5437 {the death} of all the persons5315 of thy father's0001 house1004.
22:22 Abide3427 thou with me, fear3372 not: for he that seeketh1245 my life5315 seeketh1245 thy life5315: but with me thou {shalt be} in safeguard4931.
22:23 Then they told5046 David1732, saying0559, Behold, the Philistines6430 fight3898 against Keilah7084, and they rob8154 the threshingfloors1637.
