18:1 The word1697 which came to Jeremiah3414 from the LORD3068, saying0559,
18:2 Arise6965, and go down3381 to the potter's3335 house1004, and there I will cause thee to hear8085 my words1697.
18:3 Then I went down3381 to the potter's3335 house1004, and, behold2009, he wrought6213 a work4399 on the wheels0070.
18:4 And the vessel3627 that he made6213 of clay2563 was marred7843 in the hand3027 of the potter3335: so he made6213 it again7725 another0312 vessel3627, as seemed5869 good3474 to the potter3335 to make6213 {it}.
18:5 Then the word1697 of the LORD3068 came to me, saying0559,
18:6 O house1004 of Israel3478, cannot3201 I do6213 with you as this potter3335? saith5002 the LORD3068. Behold, as the clay2563 {is} in the potter's3335 hand3027, so {are} ye in mine hand3027, O house1004 of Israel3478.
18:7 {At what} instant7281 I shall speak1696 concerning a nation1471, and concerning a kingdom4467, to pluck up5428, and to pull down5422, and to destroy0006 {it};
18:8 If that nation1471, against whom I have pronounced1696, turn7725 from their evil7451, I will repent5162 of the evil7451 that I thought2803 to do6213 unto them.
18:9 And {at what} instant7281 I shall speak1696 concerning a nation1471, and concerning a kingdom4467, to build1129 and to plant5193 {it};
18:10 If it do6213 evil7451 in my sight5869, that it obey8085 not my voice6963, then I will repent5162 of the good2896, wherewith I said0559 I would benefit3190 them.
18:11 Now therefore go to, speak0559 to the men0376 of Judah3063, and to the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389, saying0559, Thus saith0559 the LORD3068; Behold, I frame3335 evil7451 against you, and devise2803 a device4284 against you: return7725 ye now every one0376 from his evil7451 way1870, and make your ways1870 and your doings4611 good3190.
18:12 And they said0559, There is no hope2976: but we will walk3212 after0310 our own devices4284, and we will every one0376 do6213 the imagination8307 of his evil7451 heart3820.
18:13 Therefore thus saith0559 the LORD3068; Ask7592 ye now among the heathen1471, who hath heard8085 such things: the virgin1330 of Israel3478 hath done6213 a very3966 horrible thing8186.
18:14 Will {a man} leave5800 the snow7950 of Lebanon3844 {which cometh} from the rock6697 of the field7704? {or} shall the cold7119 flowing5140 waters4325 that come from another place2114 be forsaken5428?
18:15 Because my people5971 hath forgotten7911 me, they have burned incense6999 to vanity7723, and they have caused them to stumble3782 in their ways1870 {from} the ancient5769 paths7635-7635, to walk3212 in paths5410, {in} a way1870 not cast up5549;
18:16 To make7760 their land0776 desolate8047, {and} a perpetual5769 hissing8292-8292; every one that passeth5674 thereby shall be astonished8074, and wag5110 his head7218.
18:17 I will scatter6327 them as with an east6921 wind7307 before6440 the enemy0341; I will shew7200 them the back6203, and not the face6440, in the day3117 of their calamity0343.
18:18 Then said0559 they, Come3212, and let us devise2803 devices4284 against Jeremiah3414; for the law8451 shall not perish0006 from the priest3548, nor counsel6098 from the wise2450, nor the word1697 from the prophet5030. Come3212, and let us smite5221 him with the tongue3956, and let us not give heed7181 to any of his words1697.
18:19 Give heed7181 to me, O LORD3068, and hearken8085 to the voice6963 of them that contend3401 with me.
18:20 Shall evil7451 be recompensed7999 for good2896? for they have digged3738 a pit7745 for my soul5315. Remember2142 that I stood5975 before6440 thee to speak1696 good2896 for them, {and} to turn away7725 thy wrath2534 from them.
18:21 Therefore deliver up5414 their children1121 to the famine7458, and pour out5064 their {blood} by the force3027 of the sword2719; and let their wives0802 be bereaved7909 of their children, and {be} widows0490; and let their men0582 be put2026 to death4194; {let} their young men0970 {be} slain5221 by the sword2719 in battle4421.
18:22 Let a cry2201 be heard8085 from their houses1004, when thou shalt bring0935 a troop1416 suddenly6597 upon them: for they have digged3738 a pit7745-7882 to take3920 me, and hid2934 snares6341 for my feet7272.
18:23 Yet, LORD3068, thou knowest3045 all their counsel6098 against me to slay4194 {me}: forgive3722 not their iniquity5771, neither blot out4229 their sin2403 from thy sight6440, but let them be overthrown3782 before6440 thee; deal6213 {thus} with them in the time6256 of thine anger0639.
