35:1 The word1697 which came unto Jeremiah3414 from the LORD3068 in the days3117 of Jehoiakim3079 the son1121 of Josiah2977 king4428 of Judah3063, saying0559,
35:2 Go1980 unto the house1004 of the Rechabites7397, and speak1696 unto them, and bring0935 them into the house1004 of the LORD3068, into one0259 of the chambers3957, and give them wine3196 to drink8248.
35:3 Then I took3947 Jaazaniah2970 the son1121 of Jeremiah3414, the son1121 of Habaziniah2262, and his brethren0251, and all his sons1121, and the whole house1004 of the Rechabites7397;
35:4 And I brought0935 them into the house1004 of the LORD3068, into the chamber3957 of the sons1121 of Hanan2605, the son1121 of Igdaliah3012, a man0376 of God0430, which {was} by0681 the chamber3957 of the princes8269, which {was} above4605 the chamber3957 of Maaseiah4641 the son1121 of Shallum7967, the keeper8104 of the door5592:
35:5 And I set5414 before6440 the sons1121 of the house1004 of the Rechabites7397 pots1375 full4392 of wine3196, and cups3563, and I said0559 unto them, Drink8354 ye wine3196.
35:6 But they said0559, We will drink8354 no wine3196: for Jonadab3122 the son1121 of Rechab7394 our father0001 commanded6680 us, saying0559, Ye shall drink8354 no wine3196, {neither ye}, nor your sons1121 for5704 ever5769:
35:7 Neither shall ye build1129 house1004, nor sow2232 seed2233, nor plant5193 vineyard3754, nor have {any}: but all your days3117 ye shall dwell3427 in tents0168; that ye may live2421 many7227 days3117 in6440 the land0127 where ye {be} strangers1481.
35:8 Thus have we obeyed8085 the voice6963 of Jonadab3082 the son1121 of Rechab7394 our father0001 in all that he hath charged6680 us, to drink8354 no wine3196 all our days3117, we, our wives0802, our sons1121, nor our daughters1323;
35:9 Nor to build1129 houses1004 for us to dwell in3427: neither have we vineyard3754, nor field7704, nor seed2233:
35:10 But we have dwelt in3427 tents0168, and have obeyed8085, and done6213 according to all that Jonadab3122 our father0001 commanded6680 us.
35:11 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon0894 came up5927 into the land0776, that we said0559, Come0935, and let us go0935 to Jerusalem3389 for fear6440 of the army2428 of the Chaldeans3778, and for fear6440 of the army2428 of the Syrians0758: so we dwell3427 at Jerusalem3389.
35:12 Then came the word1697 of the LORD3068 unto Jeremiah3414, saying0559,
35:13 Thus saith0559 the LORD3068 of hosts6635, the God0430 of Israel3478; Go1980 and tell0559 the men0376 of Judah3063 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389, Will ye not receive3947 instruction4148 to hearken8085 to my words1697? saith5002 the LORD3068.
35:14 The words1697 of Jonadab3082 the son1121 of Rechab7394, that he commanded6680 his sons1121 not to drink8354 wine3196, are performed6965; for unto this day3117 they drink8354 none, but obey8085 their father's0001 commandment4687: notwithstanding I have spoken1696 unto you, rising early7925 and speaking1696; but ye hearkened8085 not unto me.
35:15 I have sent7971 also unto you all my servants5650 the prophets5030, rising up early7925 and sending7971 {them}, saying0559, Return7725 ye now every man0376 from his evil7451 way1870, and amend3190 your doings4611, and go3212 not after0310 other0312 gods0430 to serve5647 them, and ye shall dwell in3427 the land0127 which I have given5414 to you and to your fathers0001: but ye have not inclined5186 your ear0241, nor hearkened8085 unto me.
35:16 Because the sons1121 of Jonadab3082 the son1121 of Rechab7394 have performed6965 the commandment4687 of their father0001, which he commanded6680 them; but this people5971 hath not hearkened8085 unto me:
35:17 Therefore thus saith0559 the LORD3068 God0430 of hosts6635, the God0430 of Israel3478; Behold, I will bring0935 upon Judah3063 and upon all the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 all the evil7451 that I have pronounced1696 against them: because I have spoken1696 unto them, but they have not heard8085; and I have called7121 unto them, but they have not answered6030.
35:18 And Jeremiah3414 said0559 unto the house1004 of the Rechabites7397, Thus saith0559 the LORD3068 of hosts6635, the God0430 of Israel3478; Because ye have obeyed8085 the commandment4687 of Jonadab3082 your father0001, and kept8104 all his precepts4687, and done6213 according unto all that he hath commanded6680 you:
35:19 Therefore thus saith0559 the LORD3068 of hosts6635, the God0430 of Israel3478; Jonadab3122 the son1121 of Rechab7394 shall not want3772 a man0376 to stand5975 before6440 me for ever3117.
