37:1 And king4428 Zedekiah6667 the son1121 of Josiah2977 reigned4427 instead of Coniah3659 the son1121 of Jehoiakim3079, whom Nebuchadrezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon0894 made king4427 in the land0776 of Judah3063.
37:2 But neither he, nor his servants5650, nor the people5971 of the land0776, did hearken8085 unto the words1697 of the LORD3068, which he spake1696 by3027 the prophet5030 Jeremiah3414.
37:3 And Zedekiah6667 the king4428 sent7971 Jehucal3081 the son1121 of Shelemiah8018 and Zephaniah6846 the son1121 of Maaseiah4641 the priest3548 to the prophet5030 Jeremiah3414, saying0559, Pray6419 now unto the LORD3068 our God0430 for us.
37:4 Now Jeremiah3414 came in0935 and went out3318 among8432 the people5971: for they had not put5414 him into prison1004-3628.
37:5 Then Pharaoh's6547 army2428 was come forth3318 out of Egypt4714: and when the Chaldeans3778 that besieged6696 Jerusalem3389 heard8085 tidings8088 of them, they departed5927 from Jerusalem3389.
37:6 Then came the word1697 of the LORD3068 unto the prophet5030 Jeremiah3414, saying0559,
37:7 Thus saith0559 the LORD3068, the God0430 of Israel3478; Thus shall ye say0559 to the king4428 of Judah3063, that sent7971 you unto me to enquire1875 of me; Behold, Pharaoh's6547 army2428, which is come forth3318 to help5833 you, shall return7725 to Egypt4714 into their own land0776.
37:8 And the Chaldeans3778 shall come again7725, and fight3898 against this city5892, and take3920 it, and burn8313 it with fire0784.
37:9 Thus saith0559 the LORD3068; Deceive5377 not yourselves5315, saying0559, The Chaldeans3778 shall surely1980 depart3212 from us: for they shall not depart3212.
37:10 For though ye had smitten5221 the whole army2428 of the Chaldeans3778 that fight3898 against you, and there remained7604 {but} wounded1856 men0582 among them, {yet} should they rise up6965 every man0376 in his tent0168, and burn8313 this city5892 with fire0784.
37:11 And it came to pass, that when the army2428 of the Chaldeans3778 was broken up5927 from Jerusalem3389 for fear6440 of Pharaoh's6547 army2428,
37:12 Then Jeremiah3414 went forth3318 out of Jerusalem3389 to go3212 into the land0776 of Benjamin1144, to separate2505 himself thence in the midst8432 of the people5971.
37:13 And when he was in the gate8179 of Benjamin1144, a captain1167 of the ward6488 {was} there, whose name8034 {was} Irijah3376, the son1121 of Shelemiah8018, the son1121 of Hananiah2608; and he took8610 Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030, saying0559, Thou fallest away5307 to the Chaldeans3778.
37:14 Then said0559 Jeremiah3414, {It is} false8267; I fall not away5307 to the Chaldeans3778. But he hearkened8085 not to him: so Irijah3376 took8610 Jeremiah3414, and brought0935 him to the princes8269.
37:15 Wherefore the princes8269 were wroth7107 with Jeremiah3414, and smote5221 him, and put5414 him in prison0612 in the house1004 of Jonathan3083 the scribe5608: for they had made6213 that the prison3608.
37:16 When Jeremiah3414 was entered0935 into the dungeon1004-0953, and into the cabins2588, and Jeremiah3414 had remained3427 there many7227 days3117;
37:17 Then Zedekiah6667 the king4428 sent7971, and took him out3947: and the king4428 asked7592 him secretly5643 in his house1004, and said0559, Is there {any} word1697 from the LORD3068? And Jeremiah3414 said0559, There is3426: for, said0559 he, thou shalt be delivered5414 into the hand3027 of the king4428 of Babylon0894.
37:18 Moreover Jeremiah3414 said0559 unto king4428 Zedekiah6667, What have I offended2398 against thee, or against thy servants5650, or against this people5971, that ye have put5414 me in prison1004-3608?
37:19 Where {are} now0346 your prophets5030 which prophesied5012 unto you, saying0559, The king4428 of Babylon0894 shall not come0935 against you, nor against this land0776?
37:20 Therefore hear8085 now, I pray thee, O my lord0113 the king4428: let my supplication8467, I pray thee, be accepted5307 before6440 thee; that thou cause me not to return7725 to the house1004 of Jonathan3083 the scribe5608, lest I die4191 there.
37:21 Then Zedekiah6667 the king4428 commanded6680 that they should commit6485 Jeremiah3414 into the court2691 of the prison4307, and that they should give5414 him daily3117 a piece3603 of bread3899 out of the bakers'0644 street2351, until all the bread3899 in the city5892 were spent8552. Thus Jeremiah3414 remained3427 in the court2691 of the prison4307.
