41:1 Now it came to pass in the seventh7637 month2320, {that} Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 the son1121 of Elishama0476, of the seed2233 royal4410, and the princes7227 of the king4428, even ten6235 men0582 with him, came0935 unto Gedaliah1436 the son1121 of Ahikam0296 to Mizpah4709; and there they did eat0398 bread3899 together3162 in Mizpah4708.
41:2 Then arose6965 Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418, and the ten6235 men0582 that were with him, and smote5221 Gedaliah1436 the son1121 of Ahikam0296 the son1121 of Shaphan8227 with the sword2719, and slew4191 him, whom the king4428 of Babylon0894 had made governor6485 over the land0776.
41:3 Ishmael3458 also slew5221 all the Jews3064 that were with him, {even} with Gedaliah1436, at Mizpah4709, and the Chaldeans3778 that were found4672 there, {and} the men0582 of war4421.
41:4 And it came to pass the second8145 day3117 after he had slain4191 Gedaliah1436, and no man0376 knew3045 {it},
41:5 That there came0935 certain0582 from Shechem7927, from Shiloh7887, and from Samaria8111, {even} fourscore8084 men0376, having their beards2206 shaven1548, and their clothes0899 rent7167, and having cut1413 themselves, with offerings4503 and incense3828 in their hand3027, to bring0935 {them} to the house1004 of the LORD3068.
41:6 And Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 went forth3318 from Mizpah4709 to meet7125 them, weeping1058 all along1980 as he went1980: and it came to pass, as he met6298 them, he said0559 unto them, Come0935 to Gedaliah1436 the son1121 of Ahikam0296.
41:7 And it was {so}, when they came0935 into the midst8432 of the city5892, that Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 slew7819 them, {and cast them} into the midst8432 of the pit0953, he, and the men0582 that {were} with him.
41:8 But ten6235 men0582 were found4672 among them that said0559 unto Ishmael3458, Slay4191 us not: for we have3426 treasures4301 in the field7704, of wheat2406, and of barley8184, and of oil8081, and of honey1706. So he forbare2308, and slew4191 them not among8432 their brethren0251.
41:9 Now the pit0953 wherein Ishmael3458 had cast7993 all the dead bodies6297 of the men0582, whom he had slain5221 because3027 of Gedaliah1436, {was} it which Asa0609 the king4428 had made6213 for fear6440 of Baasha1201 king4428 of Israel3478: {and} Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 filled4390 it with {them that were} slain2491.
41:10 Then Ishmael3458 carried away captive7617 all the residue7611 of the people5971 that {were} in Mizpah4709, {even} the king's4428 daughters1323, and all the people5971 that remained7604 in Mizpah4709, whom Nebuzaradan5018 the captain7227 of the guard2876 had committed6485 to Gedaliah1436 the son1121 of Ahikam0296: and Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 carried them away captive7617, and departed3212 to go over5674 to the Ammonites1121-5983.
41:11 But when Johanan3110 the son1121 of Kareah7143, and all the captains8269 of the forces2428 that {were} with him, heard8085 of all the evil7451 that Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 had done6213,
41:12 Then they took3947 all the men0582, and went3212 to fight3898 with Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418, and found4672 him by the great7227 waters4325 that {are} in Gibeon1391.
41:13 Now it came to pass, {that} when all the people5971 which {were} with Ishmael3458 saw7200 Johanan3110 the son1121 of Kareah7143, and all the captains8269 of the forces2428 that {were} with him, then they were glad8055.
41:14 So all the people5971 that Ishmael3458 had carried away captive7617 from Mizpah4709 cast about5437 and returned7725, and went3212 unto Johanan3110 the son1121 of Kareah7143.
41:15 But Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 escaped4422 from6440 Johanan3110 with eight8083 men0582, and went3212 to the Ammonites1121-5983.
41:16 Then took3947 Johanan3110 the son1121 of Kareah7143, and all the captains8269 of the forces2428 that {were} with him, all the remnant7611 of the people5971 whom he had recovered7725 from Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418, from Mizpah4709, after0310 {that} he had slain5221 Gedaliah1436 the son1121 of Ahikam0296, {even} mighty1397 men0582 of war4421, and the women0802, and the children2945, and the eunuchs5631, whom he had brought again7725 from Gibeon1391:
41:17 And they departed3212, and dwelt in3427 the habitation1628 of Chimham3643, which is by0681 Bethlehem1035, to go3212 to enter0935 into Egypt4714,
41:18 Because6440 of the Chaldeans3778: for they were afraid3372 of them, because Ishmael3458 the son1121 of Nethaniah5418 had slain5221 Gedaliah1436 the son1121 of Ahikam0296, whom the king4428 of Babylon0894 made governor6485 in the land0776.
