波斯王亚哈随鲁的名字又一繙法，即亚达薛西，斯1:1 。他是前王薛西的第三个儿子，作王共43年。好争战，人称他绰号为长手;曾出其后瓦实提，封立以斯帖为皇后，又令归回的犹大人重修神的殿，并准犹太人仇敌的控告，降旨拦阻，以后又恩准犹太人修造，拉6:14 。在位第七年即主前458年，准许以斯拉率领犹太人归回故土，拉7:1-28 拉8:1 。到20年即主前445年，准许尼希米第一次返耶路撒冷重修城垣，尼2:1-20 。到32年即主前433年，又令尼希米复回耶路撒冷，尼5:14 尼13:6 。
