1:1 There was a man0376 in the land0776 of Uz5780, whose name8034 {was} Job0347; and that man0376 was perfect8535 and upright3477, and one that feared3373 God0430, and eschewed5493 evil7451.
1:2 And there were born3205 unto him seven7651 sons1121 and three7969 daughters1323.
1:3 His substance4735 also was seven7651 thousand0505 sheep6629, and three7969 thousand0505 camels1581, and five2568 hundred3967 yoke6776 of oxen1241, and five2568 hundred3967 she asses0860, and a very3966 great7227 household5657; so that this man0376 was the greatest1419 of all the men1121 of the east6924.
1:4 And his sons1121 went1980 and feasted4960-6213 {in their} houses1004, every one0376 his day3117; and sent7971 and called7121 for their three7969 sisters0269 to eat0398 and to drink8354 with them.
1:5 And it was so, when the days3117 of {their} feasting4960 were gone about5362, that Job0347 sent7971 and sanctified6942 them, and rose up early7925 in the morning1242, and offered5927 burnt offerings5930 {according} to the number4557 of them all: for Job0347 said0559, It may be0194 that my sons1121 have sinned2398, and cursed1288 God0430 in their hearts3824. Thus did6213 Job0347 continually3117.
1:6 Now there was a day3117 when the sons1121 of God0430 came0935 to present3320 themselves before the LORD3068, and Satan7854 came0935 also among8432 them.
1:7 And the LORD3068 said0559 unto Satan7854, Whence0370 comest0935 thou? Then Satan7854 answered6030 the LORD3068, and said0559, From going to and fro7751 in the earth0776, and from walking up and down1980 in it.
1:8 And the LORD3068 said0559 unto Satan7854, Hast thou considered7760-3820 my servant5650 Job0347, that {there is} none like him in the earth0776, a perfect8535 and an upright3477 man0376, one that feareth3373 God0430, and escheweth5493 evil7451?
1:9 Then Satan7854 answered6030 the LORD3068, and said0559, Doth Job0347 fear3372 God0430 for nought2600?
1:10 Hast not thou made an hedge7753 about him, and about1157 his house1004, and about all that he hath on every side5439? thou hast blessed1288 the work4639 of his hands3027, and his substance4735 is increased6555 in the land0776.
1:11 But0199 put forth7971 thine hand3027 now, and touch5060 all that he hath, and he will curse1288-3808 thee to thy face6440.
1:12 And the LORD3068 said0559 unto Satan7854, Behold, all that he hath {is} in thy power3027; only upon himself put not forth7971 thine hand3027. So Satan7854 went forth3318 from the presence6440 of the LORD3068.
1:13 And there was a day3117 when his sons1121 and his daughters1323 {were} eating0398 and drinking8354 wine3196 in their eldest1060 brother's0251 house1004:
1:14 And there came0935 a messenger4397 unto Job0347, and said0559, The oxen1241 were plowing2790, and the asses0860 feeding7462 beside3027 them:
1:15 And the Sabeans7614 fell5307 {upon them}, and took them away3947; yea, they have slain5221 the servants5288 with the edge6310 of the sword2719; and I only am escaped4422 alone to tell5046 thee.
1:16 While he {was} yet speaking1696, there came0935 also another, and said0559, The fire0784 of God0430 is fallen5307 from heaven8064, and hath burned up1197 the sheep6629, and the servants5288, and consumed0398 them; and I only am escaped4422 alone to tell5046 thee.
1:17 While he {was} yet speaking1696, there came0935 also another, and said0559, The Chaldeans3778 made out7760 three7969 bands7218, and fell6584 upon the camels1581, and have carried them away3947, yea, and slain5221 the servants5288 with the edge6310 of the sword2719; and I only am escaped4422 alone to tell5046 thee.
1:18 While he {was} yet speaking1696, there came0935 also another, and said0559, Thy sons1121 and thy daughters1323 {were} eating0398 and drinking8354 wine3196 in their eldest1060 brother's0251 house1004:
1:19 And, behold, there came0935 a great1419 wind7307 from5676 the wilderness4057, and smote5060 the four0702 corners6438 of the house1004, and it fell5307 upon the young men5288, and they are dead4191; and I only am escaped4422 alone to tell5046 thee.
1:20 Then Job0347 arose6965, and rent7167 his mantle4598, and shaved1494 his head7218, and fell down5307 upon the ground0776, and worshipped7812,
1:21 And said0559, Naked6174 came I out3318 of my mother's0517 womb0990, and naked6174 shall I return7725 thither: the LORD3068 gave5414, and the LORD3068 hath taken away3947; blessed1288 be the name8034 of the LORD3068.
1:22 In all this Job0347 sinned2398 not, nor charged5414 God0430 foolishly8604.
